The Rise and Fall of the Mughal Empire is the Fourth Volume in the series Cross-currents of Indian History and Culture. The Volume is divided into two parts. The First Part comprises three sections: (1) The Early Phase: (2) The Empire at its Zenith: and (3) Decline and Fall of the Mughal Power.
The first section deals with the various sources for the study of the history of the Mughal Emprei, condition of India at the opening of the sixteenth, century, conquest of India by Babur, the reign of Humayn and the life and work of Sher Shah Suri and his successors.
The era of reconstruction started with the accession of Akbar in A.D. 1556 and continued upto the reign of Shah Jahan (A.D. 1658). This was the golden period of Muslim India.
About Author :
A.N. Kapoor: After obtaining M.A., D.Phil. in English from Allahabad University, Dr. Kapoor taught English at Agra and Delhi Universities for over four decades and has edited, compiled and authored more than hundred titles, including reference books, encyclopaedias and language dictionaries. His dictionary of geographical terms published in 1955 was the first work of its kind in Hindi.
V.P. Gupta: A former Professor at Delhi University, Chief Editor, Macmillan India and Deputy Director, Institute of Constitutional and Parliamentary Studies, V.P. Gupta is presently Secretary, RadhaKamal Mukerji Memorial Society. While he was been engaged in teaching, research and published activity for the last four decades, he has of late been concerntrating on a study of Indian Freedom Movement, its ideas, events, personalities and forces which have laid the foundations of contemporary India along with all its triumphs and tragedies.
