I am told that the first club I handled was one of my father's. This is more than probable, as in my youthful days I had the undesirable habit of making use of the goods of all my relations - not to mention the goods of those who were not my relations - and decking myself up in habiliments which did not belong to me. In consequence I earned the sobriquet of Paddy - a sobriquet which remained with me for many years.
