IF that method of interpreting Scripture which is commended in this volume, be true; and if the ethical and theological views which grow naturally out of it, and are required by it, be according to the mind of God, then it must he confessed that they are of great consequence to society. They are not likely to be come of less consequence because they are unpopular; for truth is not afi'ected by human judgments, and the laws of Heaven stay not for the indifl'erence or unbelief of men. It is this, more than any private consideration, which has led to the printing of the book. Its chief end will be gained, if any persons who may think it worth their while to read it, should be induced to study more critically the subjects which it imperfectly discusses, and which the providence of God is now so remarkably pressing upon the attention of thinking men.
