This book provides a comprehensive overview of Maoism, which is an ideology derived from the teachings of the Chinese political leader, Mao Zedong. Developed during the 1950s and 1960s, Maoism is a variant of Marxism, which is itself a form of communism. It was widely applied as the political and military guiding ideology in the Communist Party of China from Mao Zedong's ascendancy until the party was taken over by Deng Xiaoping, who implemented the Chinese economic reforms in 1978. Although it is no longer adhered to by the government of the People's Republic of China, Maoist parties and groups exist throughout the world, most notably in Peru, India, and Nepal.
